Information Only - A beautiful plant native to Central and Eastern China, where the lovely flowers have in the past been regarded as a symbol of purity. Magnolia denudata is a very ornamental tree and is known for its captivating, wonderfully scented white flowers in early spring.

The leaves which follow these are attractive in their own right and pale green. The flowers are sensational and a welcome presence in spring!

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Reasonably hardy. Magnolia denudata will establish itself better in a warm, sheltered garden.
  • Flowering Period: March - May.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Small or eventually medium sized, rounded, branching tree.
    • Height: 8 - 10 m (26 - 32 ft).
    • Spread: 8 - 10 m (26 - 32 ft).
  • Notes: Although hardy, Magnolia denudata is best planted in an area that does not receive early morning sunlight in spring, as this combined with a frost can cause damage to the flowers.
