Few other hardy trees give such a spectacular display of flowers as the ornamental cherries, often doing well in poor conditions of light and soil. These deciduous and evergreen shrubs / trees are suitable for most soils, except Laurel which does not thrive on shallow soil over chalk. Flowering cherry trees can have damaging roots especially on heavy soils, and so should be planted well away from foundations, or drains.
