A superb and reliable ground cover perennial, Pulmonaria rubra 'Redstart' forms a mat of mid-green leaves with masses of attractive, pinkish-red flowers appearing in spring.

Pulmonaria rubra 'Redstart' is ideal for a position in partial shade in most soils but this does not usually do well in very wet or waterlogged areas. We use this plant often for covering the ground beneath trees in our arboretum.


  • Position: Light, dappled or partial shade.
  • Soil: Moist yet well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: March - May.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Pulmonaria rubra 'Redstart' is a clump forming perennial.

    • Spread: 45 cm (1 1/2 ft)
