(Chinese Hornbeam) Native to parts of China, this is a rare small tree with arching branches and deeply veined, pointed leaves which are usually flushed with purple when they emerge in Spring, turning dark green later on in summer. The leaves have purple and orange tints before falling in a crisp autumn.

A small or eventually medium sized tree in a favourable position. Best in sun or dappled shade with some shelter but avoid very dry soils.
