(Purple Beech) New to us, Fagus sylvatica 'Prince of Darkness' is an unusual new selection of beech with very dark purple-black spring and early summer leaves. These colourful leaves gradually turn dark green as summer progresses and finally golden-bronze in autumn before falling.

Although not a tree for instant gratification, Fagus sylvatica 'Prince of Darkness' has excellent foliage colour, particularly when planted in a position with plenty of sunlight.
