A vigorous oak native to North America and rare in the UK, Quercus shumardii has deeply lobed leaves that turn glorious shades of red in autumn. When mature and if in a good, warm area Quercus shumardii can produce large acorns, up to 3 cm in diameter although these can take 2 to 3 years to mature.

Quercus shumardii grows to be an excellent specimen tree and suitable for large gardens and woodland areas.

Supplied Size: 3L pots (seed grown, approx 3 - 4 years old, 60 - 80 cm tall)

  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Most well drained, fertile soil. Quercus shumardii grows well in most areas but will produce its most vivid autumn colour in lime free or acidic soils.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow until settled down then vigorous.
  • Habit: Quercus shumardii grows to be a medium sized tree in the UK.
