Tilia endochrysea is an exceptionally rare tree which has young leaves that emerge as a vibrant dark purple-red colour in Spring. The leaves are narrow and ovate (egg-shaped), up to 15 - 20 cm long once at their full size, turning to dark green in late spring as they age with a greyish-white underside.

Most suited to a sheltered position in sun or light, dappled shade. Avoid cold, exposed windy areas. Not a plant for instant gratification and best grown by experienced gardeners able to put the time into looking after it when young (protecting from late spring frost, etc)

  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Moist or well drained, fertile soil.
