Product Details

A handsome architectural plant, Acanthus spinosus has large glossy, dark green leaves which are deeply divided and in late summer, large spikes of foxglove-like flowers in mauve and white. Superb as a back of border plant to provide height and structure and a good foil for grasses and other herbaceous plants.

Position: Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Moist yet well drained, fertile soil.
Hardiness: Hardy.
Flowering Period: May - July.
Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
Habit: Acanthus spinosus grows to be a medium sized to tall, clump forming perennial.
- Height: up to 150 cm (5 ft)
- Spread: 60 cm (2 ft)

Notes: Acanthus spinosus requires protection from slugs and snails.
