(Japanese Apricot) Native to Western China, Prunus mume 'Beni-Chidori' has masses of fragrant, carmine-pink, flowers in early spring which appear several weeks before the flowers of other Japanese cherries.

The beautiful fragrance of almonds can sometimes be noticed from a considerable distance on a still day.

A superb small tree once established with best flower display in a position with plenty of sun.

Native to Western China, Prunus mume 'Beni-Chidori' has masses of fragrant, carmine-pink, flowers in early spring which appear several weeks before the flowers of other Japanese cherries. The beautiful fragrance of almonds can sometimes be noticed from a considerable distance on a still day.

The leaves when they emerge are pale green in spring / summer and show colourful apricot pink tints in a good, crisp autumn. Prunus mume 'Beni-Chidori' is a lovely flowering garden tree.

  • Habit: Prunus mume 'Beni-Chidori' grows to be a very small, spreading tree.

  • Notes: Prunus are known for their vigorous root systems and should not be planted over drains or close to house foundations. Despite the common name, this plant will not produce Apricots. This plant is also known as Prunus mume 'Beni-Shidare'.
