A new introduction from the United States, Betula x 'Royal Frost' grows to be a small tree with glossy, deep burgundy red leaves from spring to summer and lovely white bark once established. Unusually for a birch, the leaves can turn vivid shades of yellow, orange or red before falling in autumn.

A spectacular small garden tree once established with year round interest.

  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow to moderate
  • Habit: In the UK, Betula x 'Royal Frost'  will grow to be a small, slender, branching tree in time.
    • Height: 8 - 10 m (26 - 32 ft)
    • Spread: 6 m (20 ft)
  • Notes: Betula x 'Royal Frost' is a hybrid between Betula populifolia 'Whitespire' and Betula 'Crimson Frost'. The white bark can take 3 - 4 years to develop.
