Native to the west coast of North America, Sequoia sempervirens is a very tall, fast growing, evergreen tree with a distinctive narrow, conical shape. They have a thick layer of soft, spongy, reddish bark that helps insulate the tree from wildfires in its natural habitat. Mature trees are capable of reaching more than 90 m in height and living for over 2000 years.
