Betula dahurica 'Maurice Foster'

A rare birch tree,  Betula dahurica 'Maurice Foster'  has very eye-catching peeling, papery bark with the outer layers dark mahogany red in colour, creamy-gray underneath.

Betula dahurica 'Maurice Foster' is a lovely small to medium sized tree but although very hardy, we find that it does seem to do a lot better when planted in a hot, sunny position where the new growth can ripen fully. 

• Position: Full sun, preferably a position with plenty of summer heat.
• Soil: Any well drained, fertile soil.
• Hardiness: Hardy.
• Rate of Growth: Moderate.
• Habit: Betula dahurica 'Maurice Foster' grows to be a small or medium sized, slender tree.
  • Height: up to 10 - 12 m (32 - 40 ft)
  • Spread: 6 - 8 m (20 - 26 ft)
