Description

A lovely hybrid, Magnolia x 'Butterflies' has lovely creamy-yellow flowers in late spring which are said to look like butterflies sitting in the branches. The leaves are bright green and oval. Flowering at a relatively young age, this makes a very attractive flowering tree once established.
  • Common name: Butterflies Magnolia.
  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Most moist, fertile soils.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: April - May.
  • Flower Colour: Creamy yellow
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Compact, upright tree.
    • Height: 6 m (20 ft)
    • Spread: 4 m (10 ft)
  • Notes: A specimen of Magnolia x 'Butterflies', planted in the woodland garden surrounding our nursery had reached a height of 3 m and a spread of 2 m after 10 years.
