Our long-standing friend and wonderful plantsman, Roy Lancaster noticed two orange fruit lying on a mountain path in Hupeh Province, China (not far from Xi'an, home of the Terracotta Warriors).
Probably only Roy would have bothered to pick up these fruit and the resulting seedlings have grown into this fine, new (to the west) winter flowering plant. In our arboretum, this plant was completely unharmed by the harsh winter of 2010/11 where temperatures here dropped to -18°C.
