A rare tree native to parts of Eastern China, Tilia miqueliana has clusters of scented flower in mid to late summer and dark green, ovate (egg-shaped) leaves. The fresh shoots and leaves are covered with grey felt.

Tilia miqueliana is a distinctive and slow growing tree, often seen growing near or around Japanese temples. Not a plant for instant gratification.


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Moist or well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: July - August.
  • Flower Colour: Creamy white
  • Rate of Growth: Slow.
  • Habit: Tilia miqueliana eventually grows to be a very small branching tree in the UK.
