Rare cultivar of Beech first found in the late nineteenth century in Germany, Fagus sylvatica 'Ansorgei' is a very slow growing with fine, narrow and willow-like, deep purple leaves. The leaves are at their most purple usually in Spring and early summer, gradually turning dark purplish-green towards late summer/early autumn.

Although, not quite a weeping plant, this produces long arching branches which are very elegant in appearance, especially when growing out over a path, stream or pond. Very slow growing and not for instant gratification!

  • Position: Full sun or dappled, light shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
