A brilliant clump forming perennial for bees and butterflies, that love the flattened clusters of dark pink-purple to wine-red flowers which appear on tall stems in mid to late summer and early autumn. Dark green summer leaves.

Best flower colour usually seen as flowers age when planted in a position with plenty of sun.


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Any reasonably well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: July - September.
  • Rate of Growth: Vigorous.
  • Habit: Majestic, clump forming, upright perennial.
    • Height: 2 - 2.1 m (6 - 7 ft)
    • Spread: 1 - 1.5 m (3 - 5 ft)
  • Notes: An excellent, tough, late flowering plant for enticing insects, bees and butterflies into the garden. This plant is late into leaf and will not usually start to grow until approx late April or occasionally early May in cold winters.
