(Fang's Hornbeam) A rare species of hornbeam native to China, Carpinus fangiana grows to be an elegant small tree with eye-catching veined, finely toothed, dark green leaves (up to 20 cm long).

Established plants can also produce masses of long, pale green catkins up to 25 - 30 cm tall.

Known for being slow growing initially, Carpinus fangiana is not a tree for instant gratification but is very handsome once established.
