(Turkey Oak) Native to parts of Southern Europe, Quercus cerris was introduced to the UK in the 18th Century and is very hardy with handsome dark green, narrow, lobed leaves.
In autumn these leaves turn bronze-brown and can stay on the tree well into winter. Established specimens have solitary acorns and deeply fissured grey bark.
Quercus cerris is fairly vigorous (once the roots settle down) and makes an excellent specimen tree. Also very suitable for avenue planting.
