A fantastic holly for winter colour, Ilex x attenuata 'Sunny Foster' has young leaves which emerge as a handsome clear golden yellow in colour, while the more mature foliage is a darker gold or green. Small white flowers appear on the branches in early summer, followed by shiny, red fruit in winter. The leaf colour is most striking if planted in a very sunny spot!

  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. Ilex x attenuata 'Sunny Foster' does not particularly enjoy chalky soils.

  • Notes: The leaf colour is most striking if planted in a very sunny spot. This holly which was first discovered as a variegated leaf mutation on a plant of Ilex x attenuata 'Foster No. 2' at the U.S. National Arboretum in North America.
