An unusual climbing plant native to South America which has lance-shaped, dark green leaves and huge clusters of vibrant orange-red flowers in summer. Evergreen but best to prune back in early spring to remove any dead material.

Bomaria caldasii is not hardy (except for the very mildest sheltered positions in frost-free gardens) and is better grown as a greenhouse or conservatory plant.


  • Position: Warm and sheltered in sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Most fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Not hardy. Best grown in a glasshouse or conservatory.
  • Flowering Period: August - September.
  • Flower Colour: Orange-red.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Bomaria caldasii is a small climbing plant which requires support as it will not self-cling.
