A rare, deciduous, twining climber native to a large area from eastern China to the Himalayas, Schisandra grandiflora has delightful, beautifully scented, ivory-white flowers. The flowers are 2 - 3 cm or so in diameter, borne on trailing stalks in early summer.

Schisandra grandiflora  is a choice climber ideal for a position in full sun or light shade up trellis, wires or established trees.


  • Position: Sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Moist, fertile soil (but avoid very wet or waterlogged areas)
  • Hardiness: Hardy. Schisandra grandiflora requires shelter from cold winter winds.
  • Flowering Period: May - June.
  • Flower Colour: White
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Schisandra grandiflora is a medium sized climbing plant which requires support as it will not self-cling.
