A low spreading fern, Blechnum penna-marina has small, pinnate (feather-like), dark green fronds which are sometimes bronze or dark red when they emerge in spring. Very good as an evergreen ground cover plant as it slowly spreads.

Blechnum penna-marina is best in a position in light dappled or heavy shade. It can also be grown very successfully in a container, provided it is in a shady position.
