Acer palmatum 'Westonbirt Red'

Selected at the fantastic Westonbirt Arboretum, this is an exciting Japanese maple, with green summer leaves and excellent, long lasting, scarlet red autumn colour.

A specimen of this Acer (shown in photo) growing next to our car park here always attracts plenty of attention in the autumn for its foliage colour.

A superb large garden shrub or small tree for leaf colour in mid to October. Grows well in a large container.

• Position: Full sun or partial shade.
• Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
• Hardiness: Hardy. Acer palmatum 'Westonbirt Red' will grow best when planted in an area sheltered from strong winds.
• Rate of Growth: Moderate.
• Habit: Acer palmatum 'Westonbirt Red' will grow to be a large shrub or small branching tree in time with a rounded habit.
