A rare and deciduous tree which is native to the South-eastern USA  with bright green, pinnate leaves which can turn a fetching bright yellow in a good, crisp autumn before falling.

In late spring or early summer Cladrastis kentukea 'Perkins Pink' has very fragrant, wisteria-like, pink flowers in large, hanging clusters although the tree can be 5 - 10 years before these flowers start to make their yearly appearance.

Cladrastis kentukea 'Perkins Pink' was originally discovered in the 1930's at the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts and the wood contains a yellow dye which gives rise to its common name.
