(Japanese chestnut) Unusual in the UK, Castanea crenata grows to be a small to medium sized tree with long, fairly narrow leaves & a serrated edge, native to parts of Japan. The leaves are mid green in summer turning bronze and yellow before falling in autumn. Established plant develop interesting fissured bark.

Castanea crenata is a very handsome, spreading tree once established and will usually grow best with decent drainage and a nice sunny position.

Supplied Size: 3L pots (seed grown, approx 3 - 4 years old, 40 - 60 cm tall)

  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. Castanea crenata does not usually enjoy waterlogged areas or sites prone to flooding.
