A rare native tree, Sorbus torminalis has maple-like leaves, dark green in summer which turn vivid shades of orange or purple/red in autumn before falling. Established trees have clusters of white flowers in late spring or early summer which are popular with insects, followed by speckled brown fruit in autumn .

Sorbus torminalis grows to be a handsome small or eventually medium sized tree.

Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
Soil: Well drained, fertile soils. Sorbus torminalis does not usually enjoy very wet or waterlogged positions.
Hardiness: Hardy.
Flowering Period: May.

Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
Habit: Sorbus torminalis grows to be a small, branching tree in the short term and eventually reaches a medium size.
