Pinus monticola is a handsome, medium sized, conical evergreen tree native to Western North America with long bluish-green needles. Established plants develop grey, furrowed bark once mature and have long, slender cones.

Best habit and growth will usually be seen if planted in a sunny position with good drainage.


  • Position: Full sun.
  • Soil: Well drained soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow until settled down then moderate to vigorous.
  • Habit: Eventually a  medium sized conical tree in the UK.
    • Height: 12 - 15 m (40 - 50 ft)
