Magnolia x veitchii grows to be a lovely deciduous tree which is covered with a mass of beautiful large, goblet-shaped, pink-flushed white flowers each Spring once established which appear on the branches before the leaves emerge. The oval summer leaves are dark green in colour.

Best in a position with sun or dappled shade which is south-west to west facing to reduce the risk of frost damage on this spring flowers.


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade. Avoid frost pockets or east facing positions which receive strong early morning sunlight.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soils.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: March - April.
  • Flower Colour: Pale pink-white
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
  • Habit: Magnolia x veitchii  grows to be a small branching tree with us here in Derbyshire although it can grow significantly larger in mild, sheltered parts of the UK.
