Unusual in the UK, Hakea lissosperma is native to parts of Southern Australia and Tasmania and grows to be a medium-sized, upright evergreen shrub with slender, leathery, needle-like leaves. Clusters of attractive, long white flowers appear at the end of the branches in early summer.

Best in a warm, sunny position with shelter from strong winds.


  • Position: Sheltered & warm in full sun. Not suitable for cold, windy gardens.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. Avoid wet and waterlogged sites.
  • Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. May require protection in cold winters.
  • Flowering Period: May - June.
