A slow growing species which originates from Asia Minor and Syria, Crataegus tanacetifolia is an almost thornless, mop-headed small tree with downy, silver-grey, dandelion-like leaves. The leaves act as the perfect foil for its conspicuous creamy-white, lightly fragrant flowers in June.

These flowers are followed by yellow, suffused red, marble sized fruits which last long into winter. The fruit are edible, have a sweet apple-like flavour and can be used to make pies, preserves, etc.

Crataegus tanacetifolia is not for instant gratification but once established makes a  very handsome garden tree!
