(Chinese Redbud) New to us, this is a compact shrub in the short term or eventually very small tree which has bare branches covered with masses of vibrant mauve-pink flowers in early spring. Dark green, heart-shaped leaves appear in mid to late spring with a hint of purple initially. These turn shades of orange and gold before fallling in autumn.

An unusual garden plant with a fantastic display of spring flowers, ideal for a sunny position and well drained soil!

  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Any well-drained soils. Cercis chinensis 'Diane' plant dislikes very wet or poorly drained soils. Avoid giving this plant to much fertiliser.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: April.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Cercis chinensis 'Diane' grows to be a large shrub or very small tree with, upright initially rounding out once more established. 
    • Height: 4 - 5 m (13 - 16 ft)
    • Spread: 3 - 4 m (10 - 13 ft)
  • Notes: Cercis chinensis 'Diane' does not transplant well and should be left undisturbed once planted in position. Please do not feed this Cercis with artificial plant food after planting it out, this can severely damage the root system.
