Majestic tree native to South-western North America, Calocedrus decurrens is a very distinctive, columnar conifer with dark green, aromatic foliage. Visitors to Westonbirt arboretum in Gloucestershire can see a group of these statuesque trees, planted close to each other many years ago but still are not touching.

Calocedrus decurrens grows to be a splendid, very narrow specimen tree.

  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow until established then moderate.
  • Habit: Eventually a large tree with a narrow, upright habit.
    • Height: up to 25 - 30 m (80 - 98 ft) in many years
