Buddleja × wardii is a naturally occurring hybrid of Buddleja alternifolia and Buddleja crispa, growing to be a medium sized shrub with unusual pale silvery-grey, narrow leaves. Clusters of attractive white, lightly scented flowers with orange throats appear on the branches in spring once established.

Buddleja × wardii is most suited to a sunny, sheltered position with protection from cold winter winds.


  • Position: Warm in full sun.
  • Soil: Any well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. Buddleja × wardii requires protection from cold winds and is best grown against a sheltered sunny fence or wall. May require protection during severe winter cold and can sometimes die back in winter after extreme cold.
  • Flowering Period: April - May.
  • Flower Colour: White - orange
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Medium sized, rounded shrub.
    • Height: 2 m (6 ft) -  2.5 m (8 ft)
