A handsome small or eventually medium sized, deciduous tree, Betula utilis 'Bhutan Sienna' develops lovely peeling dark brown and chestnut-red peeling bark which gradually turns a lighter with age. Dark green summer leaves.

Best in a sunny position with good drainage.

  • Soil: Any fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
  • Habit: Betula utilis 'Bhutan Sienna' grows to be a medium sized, slender tree.
    • Height: 10 - 12 m (32 - 40 ft)
    • Spread: 6 - 8 m (20 - 26 ft)
  • Notes: For best effect, the bark should be scrubbed gently with a hand brush and water once a year. This removes any green algae or grime and helps to restore the colour. Similar to Betula utilis 'Dark Ness'.
