A deciduous shrub, Aronia prunifolia has interesting purple-black fruit in late summer and dark green leaves which turn colourful shades of orange and red before falling in autumn. Despite the common name of 'Chokeberry' the berries are edible and can be used for cooking or making jams, but the fruit itself is astringent, bitter and should be fully ripe before eating.

Aronia prunifolia is an attractive foliage plant and the berrieare a popular source of food for wildlife.
