Acer palmatum 'Herbstfeuer'

An unusual, reasonably vigorous maple, often fairly upright initially and spreading once more a little more established with large, dark green summer leaves and fiery red and orange autumn colours.

A large shrub in the shorter term or eventually very small tree, best in sun or dappled shade with a little shelter from strong winds.

• Position: Full sun or partial shade.
• Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
• Hardiness: Hardy. Acer palmatum 'Herbstfeuer' will grow best when planted in an area sheltered from strong winds.
• Rate of Growth: Moderate.
• Habit: Eventually a large shrub or very somewhat spreading small tree
  • Height: up to 5 - 6 m (16 - 20 ft)
  • Spread: 4 - 5 m (13 - 16 ft)

• Notes: Also known as Acer circinatum x palmatum 'Herbstfeuer' as this is though to be a hybrid cross with a Vine maple.
