Acer shirasawanum 'Moonrise'

New to us, this is an unusual medium sized or eventually large, deciduous shrub which has lovely red tinted young leaves in Spring which gradually turn golden green as they age into summer. The leaves turn vivid shades of orange and red in the autumn before they fall, depending on how acid the soil is.

Best foliage display if planted in a position with sun or light, dappled shade with some shelter from strong winds.

• Position: Full sun or dappled shade.
• Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. In our experience, the autumn colour will be more vivid when planted on acidic soils. This plant benefits from a high organic content in the soil.
• Hardiness: Hardy. Acer shirasawanum 'Moonrise' will grow best when planted in an area sheltered from strong winds.
• Rate of Growth: Slow.
• Habit: Acer shirasawanum Moonrise' grows to be a rounded medium sized or eventually large shrub.
