Description

A rare plant native to parts of China, Pseudocydonia sinensis is a semi-evergreen tree related to Cydonia (Quince) and has dark green leaves which turn warm shades of orange and dark red autumn before falling. Once established it also has mottled, tactile, flaking bark which is ornamental in its own right. In spring it has pale pink flowers, followed by large yellow fruit (although these fruit rarely develop fully in the U.K.).

Features

  • Common name: Chinese Quince.
  • Position: Full sun.

  • Hardiness: Reasonably hardy. Pseudocydonia sinensis requires shelter from cold winter winds.

  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Small branching tree with a somewhat rounded habit once established.
