An unusual, upright and narrow shrub, Sambucus nigra 'Pyramidalis' has crinkled, dark green leaves tightly packed on the branches and clusters of small white flowers in early summer.

An interesting, architectural plant suitable for areas with limited space but usually fairly slow growing and not for instant gratification.

Supplied Size: 4L / 5L pots (approx 4 - 5 years old, 40 - 60 cm tall)

  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Any fertile, well drained soil. Sambucus nigra 'Pyramidalis' does not seem to be as tolerant of wet or moist ground with us as some of the other Sambucus.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: June.
  • Flower Colour: White
  • Rate of Growth: Slow to moderate.
  • Habit: Sambucus nigra 'Pyramidalis' grows to be a medium or eventually large, narrow shrub.
    • Height: eventually up to 2.5 - 3 m (8 - 10 ft)
