Available Autumn 2019 - Discovered growing on the flanks of Mount Aso in Japan, Hydrangea serrata 'Mount Aso' is a compact shrub with lovely delicate pink and blue (depending on the soil pH) flower heads in summer. The leaves are handsome and dark green in colour with tints of red, orange or purple before falling in autumn.

  • Soil: Moist yet well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: July - September.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow .
  • Habit: Hydrangea serrata 'Mount Aso' is a small, compact, nearly ground cover shrub.
    • Height: 80 - 100 cm (2 - 3 ft)
    • Spread: 80 - 100 m (2 - 3 ft)
  • Notes: The flowers will be a lilac-blue colour in acidic soils and turn purple or pink on neutral or slightly alkali soils.
