New to us, Corylus avellana 'Anaconda' has interesting twisted stems and (so far!) a more upright habit (with significantly more vigour) than the similar Corylus avellana 'Contorta'. Established plants will produce catkins in spring.

Taller, more upright and tree-like than 'Contorta' once established.

Supplied Size: 4L or 5L pots (apporx three to four years old, 80 - 100 cm tall)

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade.
  • Soil: Any fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: January to March (Catkins).
  • Rate of Growth: Slow to moderate.
  • Habit: Corylus avellana 'Anaconda' grows to be a large shrub or possibly a very small tree once mature with bent and twisting stems.
    • Height: up to 3 - 4 m (10 - 13 ft) in many years.
    • Spread: 2 - 2.5 m (6 - 8 ft).
