INFORMATION ONLY - A rare and leafless tree, Chordospartium stevensonii  has odd cord-like, pendulous, weeping branches and lovely racemes of pale pink/lilac flowers in summer once mature.

When established, this is an eye-catching tree, a little similar to a weeping willow in appearance although as the stems of young plants can look brown and lifeless for a number of years, it is best for keen and patient gardeners only.

Chordospartium stevensonii is generally best suited for a  warm, sunny, sheltered position with a well drained soil.

  • Position: Warm in full sun.
  • Soil: Well drained soil.
  • Hardiness: Somwehat hardy. Chordospartium stevensonii requires shelter from cold winter winds and may require protection in severe cold.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: In the UK, Chordospartium stevensonii grows to be a large shrub or eventually a very small tree in a good position.
    • Height: up to 4 m (13 ft)
    • Spread: 3 m (10 ft)
  • Notes: Please note that although we usually guarantee plants for a year after purchase, we will NOT replace a Chordospartium stevensonii which is damaged or killed by winter cold or waterlogging.
