Native to China and a rare small tree in the United Kingdom, Acer henryi has dark green, trifoliate leaves (leaves composed of three leaflets, each up to 10 cm long) with handsome red orange or yellow autumn colour.

Generally branching and naturally multi-stemmed once established, Acer henryi is best planted in a position with some shelter from strong winds and sun or light, dappled shade.

  • Soil: Moist or well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy. Although generally hardy, Acer henryi is not really suited to cold, exposed gardens.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Acer henryi typically grows to be an elegant small, branching tree in the UK.
