A rare semi-evergreen shrub native to China and Korea, Ligustrum quihoui has very dark green leaves and handsome sprays of creamy white flowers in mid to late summer. The flowers are popular with bees and butterflies.

Ligustrum quihoui is an exciting specimen shrub which can be pruned in late autumn or early spring if required.


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Any fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy. Ligustrum quihoui is reasonably tolerant of dry conditions and drought.
  • Flowering Period: July - September.
  • Flower Colour: White
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Ligustrum quihoui grows to be a large densely branching, rounded shrub.
    • Height: 2 - 3 m (6 - 10 ft) if left unpruned.
    • Spread: 3 m (10 ft) if left unpruned.
  • Notes: A specimen of Ligustrum quihoui, planted in the arboretum surrounding our nursery had reached a height of 1 m and a spread of 1 m after 3 - 4 years.
