Splendid rare large shrub or small tree with eye-catching leaves that is native to the western Caucasus mountains and north-eastern Turkey.
Quercus pontica has large, deep green, oval leaves and produces superb olive-yellow catkins in late May or early June. In autumn the leaves can develop good, strong yellow tints before falling.
Established specimens can produce huge and very ornamental acorns.
