A new introduction,
Magnolia kobus var
stellata 'Water Lily' has large (up to 12 cm in diameter), slightly fragrant, white flowers with many narrow petals, tinged with pink in early spring. These flowers appear before the deep green leaves emerge and look a little like small water lilies, hence the name. An unusual and lovely, garden plant!
