Description

A dazzling selection with large, saucer shaped flowers, dark pink on the outside and white on the inside which create a spectacular display in spring, especially on established specimens. A reliable Magnolia which flowers at a time of year when many plants are still bare!

Features

  • Common name: Saucer Magnolia.
  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soils.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Flowering Period: March - April.
  • Flower Colour: Dark pink and white
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Eventually a small branching tree with a somewhat rounded habit once established.
    • Height: 6 m (20 ft)
    • Spread: 6 m (20 ft)
  • Notes: We have found that although hardy, this Magnolia is best planted in an area which does not receive early morning sunlight in spring, as this combined with a frost can cause damage to the flowers.
  • Size: Young plants in 3L containers
