A deciduous holly,
Ilex verticillata 'Southern Gentleman' is a sought after male form and the main pollinator for most female late flowering
Ilex verticillata cultivars, including 'Winter Red'. This has dark green leaves and masses of small, white flowers in early summer. A single 'Southern Gentleman' should pollinate several surrounding female 'Winter Red'.
