Description

Information Only - An unusual selected form, Hamamelis vernalis 'Lombard's Weeping' has a spreading habit and weeping branches covered with dainty reddish-purple, scented flowers in late winter. A smaller witch hazel than the other cultivars listed here due to its pendulous branches.

  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. Hamamelis vernalis 'Lombard's Weeping' dislikes shallow, chalk soil and will not grow well in wet or waterlogged conditions.
  • Hardiness: Reasonably hardy. As a young plant, Hamamelis vernalis 'Lombard's Weeping' may require protection from severe, late spring frosts once the young leaves have emerged in spring.
  • Flowering Period: January - March.
  • Flower Colour: Purple-red
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Hamamelis vernalis 'Lombard's Weeping'  grows to be medium sized weeping shrub.
    • Height: 2 m (6 ft).
    • Spread: 2.5 m (8 ft).
  • Notes: In soils which may become wet in winter, it is a good idea to mound-plant Hamamelis to improve the drainage around the root system.
